The OL Reign defeated the Portland Thorns 2-1 on Sunday, with Megan Rapinoe scoring twice to secure the win over the league’s top-ranked team.
The Reign set an NWSL attendance record in the win, with 27,248 fans filling the seats at Lumen Field. That number also surpasses the number of fans that attended the USWNT’s game against Brazil in 2015, making it the largest crowd to ever watch a women’s soccer match in Washington.
The fans certainly got their money’s worth as Rapinoe continued her strong play since returning from the Tokyo Olympics. The forward struck first in the 16th minute, securing a pass from Jess Fishlock and beating Thorns keeper Bella Bixby.
