Gotham FC is three points away from clinching a playoff berth after drawing with Kansas City 1-1 on Friday night.

Gotham needed a win to lock up a playoff spot, but a late first-half goal from Kansas City extended the club’s postseason chase.

Midge Purce put Gotham on the board early, charging into Kansas City’s box before drilling a low rocket into the far post. The finish marks Purce’s third goal in three games and catapults her to second in the Golden Boot race with nine goals this season.

Kansas City responded in the 45th minute, with Kristen Hamilton drawing a penalty in Gotham’s box and Kristen Edmonds converting from the line to equalize. With Friday’s draw, Kansas City extends their home unbeaten streak to seven games.

Next up: Gotham FC has two more opportunities to clinch a playoff spot. The club will take on Racing Louisville FC on Thursday and again on Oct. 31.
