Naomi Osaka withdrew from her semifinal match at a WTA Australian Open tune-up event on Friday, citing an abdominal injury.
Veronika Kudermetova, Osaka’s opponent, will advance to the Summer Set 1 final, facing off against No. 2 seed Simona Halep on Sunday.
“Sad to withdraw due to injury from my match today, my body got a shock from playing back to back intense matches after the break I took,” said Osaka on Twitter. “I’ll try to rest up and I’ll see you soon!”
In a statement issued by Tennis Australia, Osaka said she plans to “rest and prepare for the Australian Open.”
