The projected top-16 seeds have been revealed for the NCAA women’s basketball tournament, with South Carolina taking the No. 1 overall spot.
Tennessee is the other projected No. 1 seed from the SEC with a fourth place ranking, slotted into the Wichita Region. Defending national champion Stanford and NC State are No. 2 and 3 respectively, each receiving No. 1 seeds for their respective regional assignments.
Currently UConn, slated as a No. 3 seed, would not be in the Connecticut region, which is topped by South Carolina.
Subsequent reveals will happen on Feb. 10 and Feb. 28.
Thursday evening saw two of the projected top 16 teams get upset by unranked teams. No. 4 Tennessee was beat by Auburn, who got its first win in SEC play in almost two years. Arkansas also upset No. 12 seed LSU behind a barrage of 13 3-pointers.
Projected No. 2 overall seed Stanford is currently slotted to stay west in the Spokane Region in Washington. No. 3 seed NC State currently headlines the Bridgeport Region.
