A second-half charge helped No. 3 UConn overcome Iowa on Sunday, 86-79, and remain undefeated to start the season.

Azzi Fudd came alive in the second half, scoring 22 of her 24 total points after halftime. She was joined by Aaliyah Edwards, who had 20 points and 13 rebounds and was too much for the No. 9 Hawkeyes to overcome.

With her performance, Edwards joined the likes of Breanna Stewart and Maya Moore as the third UConn player to record at least 20 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in a game against a top-10 team since at least 1999-2000.

Led by Kate Martin (20 points) and Caitlin Clark (25 points), Iowa took a 41-35 lead into halftime. The Hawkeyes increased that lead to 52-41 before the Huskies started to chip away at the deficit.

Fudd was a perfect 7-for-7 from the field in the third quarter for a total of 16 points as Clark went scoreless.

UConn also shot 55.1 percent to Iowa’s 41.8 percent and out-rebounded Iowa 44-28.

“We have a will to win,” said UConn head coach Geno Auriemma postgame. “I think that was evident today.”

Still, he cited Iowa as “difficult to play against,” and was caught on camera during the handshake line telling the Iowa staff as much.

Iowa (5-2) will next take on No. 13 NC State on Thursday, while UConn (5-0) will meet Providence on Friday.
