No. 4 Blue Devils star Toby Fournier wasn't on the court for Tuesday's Duke vs Green Bay opening game at Cameron Indoor Stadium. The All-American forward didn't suit up due to a lower leg injury, leaving Duke women's basketball without its most dominant player for the first tip of the 2026/27 NCAA season.
Kara Lawson Gives Vague Update on Toby Fournier Injury
After the game, head coach Kara Lawson kept details on the Fournier's injury brief.
"We're hopeful she'll be back soon," Lawson said. "I don't have a timetable for you."
But even without Fournier, Duke managed to pull away with a win to kick off the 2026/27 season. The Blue Devils took control of the game after halftime, overcoming an early deficit in the NCAA women's basketball opener.
Arianna Roberson stepped up off the bench, posting 15 points, four blocks and two 3-pointers in 22 minutes. Riley Nelson added another 15, while Texas transfer Aaliyah Crump contributed 11 points and a team-high six assists in her first game in a Duke uniform.
Still, Fournier's absence should worry fans. The 6-2 Canadian averaged 17.3 points, 7.9 rebounds and 2.2 blocks last season en route to All-American honors and a second straight Elite Eight run. Until she's cleared, Duke's depth will have to carry the load.
