The IUPUI women’s basketball team stunned No. 15 Iowa at home on Tuesday, riding a fourth-quarter surge to a 74-73 upset win.
The Jaguars (5-4) trailed by as many as 18 points in the third quarter before mounting a comeback. Iowa star sophomore Caitlin Clark, who had 19 points and 11 rebounds, said the team “froze up” in the fourth quarter.
“The film never lies,” Clark said. “It’s going to show areas in which we froze up. We weren’t playing to win almost. We had a 15-point lead, and it almost seemed like we were trying not to lose in a sense.”

Iowa ended the third quarter up 62-47 before IUPUI outscored the Hawkeyes 25-8 in the fourth.
Despite Clark’s performance and Monika Czinano’s 23 points, no other Iowa player reached double-digit scoring. For IUPUI, Macee Williams and Rachel McLimore contributed 19 points each and Madison Wise added 12. While the Jaguars went 10-of-27 from 3-point range, the Hawkeyes were just 4-of-22.
“We’re not shooting the 3 well, and I can’t explain it,” Iowa head coach Lisa Bluder said. “It’s frustrating.”
It’s the Hawkeyes’ latest upset loss after falling to Iowa State and Duke in non-conference play earlier this month.
Iowa will look to rebound against Penn State on Dec. 30.
