For the Eagles, it’s their highest ranked win since a 2-1 win over No. 6 Florida in the 2012 NCAA Tournament.
“Great job by our players,” said head coach David Deiros. “I think they played really well in all three facets of the game. Kudos to Emily [Estroff] for a fantastic start and Riley Oakes for taking us home. Our bats were pretty good all game long as we did a really nice job on O’Leary, who’s an All-American. I’m really proud of our effort and we’re ready to get out there tomorrow.”
Estroff, a senior pitcher, allowed just three earned runs on five hits. She also struck out three batters in six innings against a team that ranked 3rd in hits and 14th in runs in 2021. Estroff was also superb at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs batted in.
Reedy Davenport drove in two runs on two hits, scoring one of her own.
Texas jumped out to an early lead, scoring a run in both the first and second innings. But the Eagles got four runs out of Texas All-American pitcher Shea O’Leary in the bottom of the second.
Now 2-1 on the season, FGCU and Texas will face off again on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET.
