The Courage, like many NWSL teams, have had several key players sidelined due to COVID-19 this season. North Carolina’s May matchup against Gotham FC was canceled with seven Courage players and 11 total athletes out under COVID-19 protocol.
With COVID-19 wreaking havoc on North Carolina’s availability report, the Courage has gotten off to a slow start to the regular season. The club has registered just one win after claiming the Challenge Cup trophy on May 7, with North Carolina’s 1-3-1 record placing the club at the bottom of the NWSL standings.
The team is in need of a win Saturday, and with Washington fighting a top-heavy regular-season schedule, the Courage might be able to pull out the victory against a Spirit side.
Kickoff between the Washington Spirit and North Carolina is set for Saturday at 7 p.m. ET at Segra Field.
