Trinity Rodman has re-signed with the Washington Spirit on a four-year deal that is reportedly worth more than $1.1 million, according to the Washington Post.
The deal is thought to possibly be the richest in NWSL history.

The Spirit, NWSL, and Rodman’s agent declined to comment on the details of the contract.
“We’re excited to re-sign Trinity and continue to support her development as a player,” said club president Ben Olsen. “She has accomplished a great deal early in her career and our focus is to provide the right environment for her to reach her potential.”
While the NWSL maximum this season is $75,000, teams are able to use allocation money to boost individual salaries. Previously, Christen Press had signed one of the largest deals in league history with Angel City FC, worth a reported $550,000 over three years.
The 2021 NWSL Rookie of the Year, Rodman was drafted second overall in the 2021 draft and became the youngest player in league history this season. She netted seven goals and added seven assists, including on the championship-winning header by Kelley O’Hara that delivered the club its first NWSL Championship.
“We’re incredibly excited to have Trin as a part of the Spirit family for at least the next three seasons,” said head coach Kris Ward. “She has a truly special career ahead of her and makes us a better club on all fronts.”
As for why Rodman signed a long-term deal, she told the Washington Post that the team helped her with the decision. She cited the bond forged last season amid last year’s turmoil, including allegations of abuse against former coach Richie Burke and the ongoing ownership battle between Y. Michele Kang and Steve Baldwin.
“The biggest test was what we had gone through and knowing this team had my back through everything,” Rodman said. “We got through it. We built a sisterhood. We’re just going to keep building.”
The California native also said that she has “fallen in love” with Washington D.C. Despite other players making moves overseas, she said she hadn’t thought about it.
“I have grown up pretty fast, but I am young,” she said. “This first year was so good and ended so well, I hadn’t really thought about [European options]. Where I am now, I am extremely happy.”
