Gotham FC maintained their hold on the top spot in the NWSL standings, but four clubs sit just one point back through nine matches.
A 1-1 draw with the Washington Spirit moved Gotham to 17 points on the season, while the Spirit have 16 points. Bruninha got Gotham on the board first, but Washington’s Paige Metayer scored the equalizer in the 69th minute.
But Washington isn’t the only team within one point of Gotham.

San Diego and Portland played to a 1-1 draw, with Reyna Reyes playing hero for Portland with the game-tying goal in the 90th minute.
The North Carolina Courage sit in sixth with 14 points after a 2-1 win over Racing Louisville.
The Chicago Red Stars got their first win in six weeks with a 1-0 result over Orlando, which was also goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher’s 150th start. They leapfrogged the Kansas City Current in the standings, with the Current in last place after losing four games in a row.
