The longtime Thorns’ midfielder will join USWNT teammate Catarina Macario, who began her professional career with the club last season.
The 27-year-old Horan has spent the last six years with the Portland Thorns. She’s made 87 appearances for the club, tallying 25 goals and helping the team win the NWSL championship in 2017. The Thorns also won two NWSL Shields (2016, 2021) and the 2021 NWSL Challenge Cup during Horan’s tenure. She was named NWSL MVP in 2018.
Prior to her arrival in Portland, Horan spent four years with Paris Saint-Germain, making 58 appearances and notching 46 goals. She began her career with the French club, skipping college and going pro right out of high school.
Horan is also a staple piece of the USWNT, having been with the team since 2013. Through 108 international appearances, she has 25 goals and 34 assists. In December, she was named the USWNT’s Player of the Year for 2021.
According to ESPN, Horan is already in France, having reportedly left the USWNT’s January camp on Tuesday and traveled to Lyon to complete the loan.
