Some news from @BOOMbaca and me: Paul Riley temporarily suspended by SafeSport. He’s barred from any activity, event or competition organized or sponsored by US Soccer, and can’t use any facility under its jurisdiction while an investigation is done.
The move comes after a bombshell report from The Athletic, which accused the former NWSL coach of sexual coercion and emotional abuse.
Following the story, the North Carolina Courage fired Riley, and U.S. Soccer suspended his coaching license.
In a statement released on Thursday, NWSL commissioner Lisa Baird, who has since resigned, stated that the league would mandate team staff who regularly interact with players participate in US Center for SafeSport training.
