The arrest came one day after Diallo replaced Hamraoui in PSG’s midfield for its Champions League game against Real Madrid.
Details of the attack were first written up in L’Equipe. According to sources from the NY Times, Hamraoui had accepted a ride home from Diallo following a team meal. The car was stopped by two men while they were driving and both players were pulled out of the car. As Diallo was held by one of the men, the other assaulted Hamraoui, injuring both her hands and legs.
Hamraoui reportedly suffered cuts and heavy bruises but no broken bones. The 31-year-old signed with the club from Barcelona prior to this season.
“Paris St.-Germain is working with the Versailles police to clarify the facts,” the team said in a statement, confirming Diallo had been taken into custody. “The club is paying close attention to the progress of the proceedings and will study what action to take.”
Diallo and Hamraoui are not only teammates on PSG but also the French national team. Diallo has been accused of hiring the hitman to injure Hamraoui in order to prevent her from competing for playing time.
PSG is coming off of a season that saw them end Lyon’s 14-year reign atop France’s Division 1 Féminine and take home the league title.
