The Russian Tennis Federation took home the Billie Jean King Cup for the fifth time on Saturday, downing Switzerland 2-0 in the final. Saturday’s championship marks Russia’s first title in the tournament since 2008.
Daria Kasatkina started Russia off on the front foot, cruising to a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Switzerland’s Jil Teichmann to put her side up 1-0.

Liudmila Samsonova went on to clinch the title for Russia, defeating No. 17 Belinda Bencic 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Samsonova ends her Billie Jean King Cup campaign undefeated, coming up clutch in the final and semifinals against the United States.
“It’s unbelievable. I’m unbelievably happy,” Samsonova said after Saturday’s win.
