Sabrina Ionescu is stepping into the shoe game.
The New York Liberty guard is set to have her own signature shoe with Nike, the Sabrina 1, which will release in the fall of 2023. She becomes just the second woman athlete to receive a signature model from Nike in more than a decade, following Elena Delle Donne, who released her own shoe last year.
Including Ionescu, just 12 WNBA players have had signature shoes bearing their names. Sheryl Swoopes was the first woman in WNBA history with a signature shoe.
Delle Donne, Breanna Stewart, Candace Parker, Rebecca Lobo, Lisa Leslie, Dawn Staley, Cynthia Cooper, Nikki McCray, Chamique Holdsclaw and Diana Taurasi also have had signature shoes.
In the last two years, three WNBA stars have launched their first-ever signature shoes, including Delle Donne and Stewart. Stewart’s Puma sneaker launched last summer.
“Anytime you hear ‘signature,’ I think that’s jaw-dropping, eye-opening, especially on the women’s side,” Stewart told ESPN at the time. “There haven’t been many.”
Ionescu’s shoe will launch in the fall of 2023 with several colorways, featuring names including Photon Dust, White Black and Oxygen Purple.
The holiday season will bring three colorways, including New York Liberty, Light Bone Laser Orange and Medium Soft Pink, Sole Retriever reported. All of the shoes will be priced at $125.
New York is set to make a run at the WNBA title this season after reloading with a number of stars during the offseason, including Stewart.
