Simone Biles publicly thanked the Japanese gym where she secretly trained after withdrawing from multiple gymnastics events at the Tokyo Olympics, citing her mental health.
In a tweet on Wednesday, Biles expressed her gratitude to Juntendo University “for allowing me to come train separately to try to get my skills back.”
I’ll forever be thankful for Junetendo ❤️ for allowing me to come train separately to try to get my skills back. The japanese are some of, if not the sweetest people I’ve ever met. https://t.co/2ZWrItJwAO— Simone Biles (@Simone_Biles) August 4, 2021

Biles’ message confirmed a report by The Wall Street Journal that the American gymnast had been privately training to regain her air awareness. The Juntendo University gym allowed Biles to overcome the “twisties” for hours at a time away from the glare of the Games.
