Thursday's Sparks vs Lynx matchup ended in a road upset at Target Center. LA's visiting side beat Minnesota to snap the Lynx's 10-game winning streak with vets Dearica Hamby and Rae Burrell powering the late push.
The Sparks trailed by eight at halftime. Then Nneka Ogwumike and Burrell opened the third with 3-pointers for LA. But Kayla McBride answered with two triples for Minnesota which allowed the Lynx to carry a five-point edge into the fourth.
Still, the Sparks refused to simply go away.
Rae Burrell & Dearica Hamby Fuel LA Sparks Offense
Hamby scored five quick points early in the quarter. Burrell later tied the game with a triple with six minutes left. After McBride briefly nudged the Lynx ahead, Ogwumike and Erica Wheeler answered to flip the lead.
A Cameron Brink block then set up a Monique Akoa Makani jumper. Eventually, Wheeler sealed the win with a layup inside the final minute.
In total, multiple Sparks starters logged double-digits in a sorely-needed team effort win. Hamby finished with 16 points and nine rebounds, Burrell added 17, and Nneka posted 16 with seven boards.
LA will hope to continue their winning streak against the Golden State Valkyries on Sunday at 7 PM ET on ESPN.
