Team USA fell to Australia 70-67 on Friday in one of the team’s last exhibition games before heading to the Olympics, where they are heavily favored to win gold.
Australia was without star center Liz Cambage, who withdrew from the Olympics Friday morning, citing mental health reasons.
The US fell behind in the first quarter before fighting back to take the lead, outscoring Australia 22-9 in the second.
The team then took a double-digit lead into halftime and led well into the third quarter. With 10 minutes remaining, Team USA led 56-51.
Australia then took the lead late in the fourth quarter before Breanna Stewart tied the game with a three-point play to secure a double-double. Stewart finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds, but it ultimately wasn’t enough to hold off the upset.
