UConn got a big win over Florida State in the Hall of Fame Women’s Showcase on Sunday as a couple of key players made their return.
The win helped UConn avoid consecutive losses, a streak that dates back to March of 1993.
The return of Nika Muhl and Dorka Juhasz helped to bolster the Huskies. Juhasz had 15 points and nine rebounds while Muhl had six points and 12 assists. Their return also provided some breathing room to UConn’s bench, which at one point was just two players deep. It was their first game with nine total players in two weeks.
Juhasz also recorded a career-high five blocks. She had been out for the past seven games with a broken thumb.
Aliyah Edwards had a career-high 26 points en route to being named game MVP while Lou Lopez-Senechal added 23 points.
The team was without head coach Geno Auriemma, however, as Auriemma felt unwell following the team’s shootaround. The team announced he would not be with the team “out of an abundance of caution.”
Florida State made a run in the third quarter, putting up 27 points to UConn’s 18. They then pulled within five in the fourth quarter and outscored the Huskies 42-32 in the second half. But it wasn’t enough as UConn had built up an 18-point lead at the half.
Te’Niya Latson, who led the Seminoles with 24 points, fouled out in the fourth quarter to further the blow to Florida State’s attempted comeback.
