UConn’s Caroline Ducharme has undergone hip surgery, the school announced Friday.

The freshman guard first broke the news to her Instagram, showcasing a room filled with her teammates. “Lol it’s not my birthday,” she wrote. “It’s the birthday of my new hip.”

“The procedure repaired an injury she sustained prior to coming to UConn,” the program said in a release Friday. “Ducharme will begin a rehabilitation program Friday and will be ready for the 2022-23 preseason.”

The 6-foot-2 guard averaged 9.8 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 31 appearances during the 2021-2022 season. Due to injury, Ducharme missed four games during the Huskies’ season, starting on Feb. 4.

In the NCAA title game, Ducharme notched nine points in 22 minutes on the court.
