A tight finish, Mereshko touched in four one-hundredths ahead of second place finisher, Team USA’s Elizabeth Marks.
It’s Mereshko’s first Paralympic medal despite being a five-time World Champion and world record holder in the S6 100m freestyle.
Mereshko is back in the pool for the heats of the SM6 200m medley at 8:50 p.m. ET.
