It took two years, but Ashley Sanchez is finally back on the USWNT roster. The North Carolina Courage midfielder has 20 goals this NWSL season, currently tying the league's single-season scoring mark. But it's her return to the international stage via the latest USWNT squad announcement, that's making headlines this week.
Emma Hayes's USWNT Roster Mix Fresh and Familiar Faces
She's not the only notable addition, either. Emma Hayes's USWNT call-ups on Tuesday included four players without senior caps on the 26-player roster: goalkeeper Jordan Silkowitz, midfielder Evelyn Shores, and forwards Trinity Byars and Pietra Tordin. At the same time, Naomi Girma and Sam Coffey are back after injury kept them out of recent windows. Jaedyn Shaw and Ally Sentnor, meanwhile, were assigned to the U-23 roster.
The squad will gear up for two USWNT October friendlies against defending World Cup winners Spain. The first will be on Oct. 10th at Audi Field in Washington, DC, followed by an Oct. 13th match at Subaru Park in Chester, PA.
"This camp will be about reestablishing connections after a long break," Hayes said of the USWNT call-ups. She added that the staff plans to evaluate players who are new to this World Cup cycle, all while putting competitive lineups on the field for both matches.
