The Liberty’s playoff chances just got a lot grimmer.

New York has lost seven of their last eight games, falling to the Mercury in back-to-back contests at the Barclays Center on Wednesday and again on Friday.

“We could’ve controlled our own destiny and we just didn’t win the games that we needed to win,” said Liberty coach Walt Hopkins following the team’s home losses.

Now the team must go on the road for four games, three against top-four teams: the Storm, the Sun, and the Lynx.

“We’re doing the same things over and over again… The lack of execution on both ends, the sometimes effort, the sometimes stay together, the head hanging, it’s got to change,” said Hopkins, airing out his frustrations.

The Liberty are still looking to clinch a WNBA playoff spot for the first time since 2017, with the team’s last five games now must-wins.

The Las Vegas Aces, Connecticut Sun, and the Seattle Storm have all locked up their place in the playoffs, leaving five remaining spots.
