“My decision to retire early was long and deliberated. I knew it was time for soccer to take a back seat and move forward with the next dream,” Goff said in a statement. “I want to thank my Spirit teammates, the Spirit staff and our amazing fans for taking me in and supporting me throughout my time here. I received nothing but love and support following my decision. Thank you to my friends and family who pushed me to my potential and stood behind me in the ups and downs. Much love to the Spirit community.”
The 24-year-old attended the University of North Carolina, where she appeared in 101 matches across four seasons for the Tar Heels, notching four goals and four assists. After graduating in 2019, Goff signed with the Icelandic Premier League club Þróttur in Reykjavík before joining the Spirit.
“Morgan is a great competitor, a consummate professional and an even better human,” Spirit coach Kris Ward said. “She always gave her best and did so with a smile. We will miss her and certainly wish her well.”
