What to know about the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup

The inaugural WNBA Commissioner’s Cup championship is finally here. The in-season competition culminates with the title game, scheduled for Aug. 12.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Thursday’s final:

What is the Commissioner’s Cup?

The WNBA Commissioner’s Cup is an in-season competition made up of 60 regular-season games, ten per team.”Cup games” are the first home game and first road game each team plays against its five intra-conference rivals. The teams with the best records in each conference meet in the championship game.

Who is in the final?

The Connecticut Sun and Seattle Storm will face off in the Commissioner’s Cup championship. The Sun dominated the Eastern Conference, advancing to the final with a 9-1 record. Seattle logged an 8-2 record in Cup games against Western Conference competition.

What’s at Stake?

Player’s will compete with $500,000 of total prize money on the line. The winning team will take home $30,000 per player, while the runners-up will be awarded $10,000 per player. The title game’s MVP will earn an extra $5,000.

The Commissioner’s Cup Championship Game will air on Prime Video on Thursday, Aug. 12, at 9 pm ET. WNBA icon Lisa Leslie will join the broadcast as lead analyst alongside play-by-play announcer Lisa Byington.
