It will be Bird’s 19th in the WNBA, extending the record for most seasons played in the WNBA.
When the Seattle Storm’s season ended in the playoffs in September, Bird was noncommittal as chants of “One more year!” rang out in the arena. In October, she said that the thought of playing in the Storm’s new Climate Pledge Arena was “very tempting.”
An unrestricted free agent, Bird is all but confirmed to re-sign with Seattle when free agency negotiations begin on January 15. The 41-year-old will likely finish her career with the Storm after they drafted her No. 1 out of UConn in 2002.
Unrestricted free agents are allowed to officially begin signing contracts on February 1. The Seattle Storm initially posted about Bird’s decision, but quickly pulled it down.
