Tegan McGrady is heading to the Portland Thorns, as the San Diego Wave traded the defender in exchange for Thorns defender Madison Pogarch.

The teams announced the news Monday. The league-leading Wave revealed that Pogarch would be available for their Aug. 7 home match against the Kansas City Current.

“Bringing in Pogarch will add so much value to our current roster both on the field and in our environment,” San Diego Wave coach Casey Stoney said in a statement. “Po, as she is known, arrives here with such glowing character references from those that have played and worked with her. I’m excited to see what she can add to our environment.”

Pogarch signed with the Thorns in 2019 after a breakout collegiate career at Central Michigan University and Rutgers University.

In her fourth season with the Thorns, Porgach appeared in ten matches, logging ten clearance, seven interceptions and two blocks, before being traded to the Wave.

McGrady, who will join the Thorns, appeared in ten matches and nine starts in the Wave’s debut season. San Diego acquired the defender through a trade with the Washington Spirit, where McGrady played for three seasons.

“On behalf of the club, I thank Tegan for everything she has done for San Diego Wave FC in her time here,” San Diego general manager Molly Downtain said. “As part of our inaugural roster, Tegan made an impact on and off the field and she’ll always be part of the Wave family.”
