Kate French took home gold in the modern pentathlon in Tokyo, becoming Britain’s second gold medalist in the event after Stephanie Cook in 2000.
French secured her spot at the top of the podium after a dominant performance in the laser run, missing only two of her 22 shots.

The modern pentathlon is comprised of running, swimming, fencing, shooting and horseback riding, with all five sporting competitions held on the same day.
Horses are assigned to competitors at random, which has been a cause for controversy in Tokyo. A German pentathlon coach was disqualified from the Games after hitting a horse struggling to jump during competition.
