Kim Little ended her loan with OL Reign on a high, notching an assist Sunday in her final NWSL game before returning to Women’s Super League club Arsenal.

The 32-year-old served in a perfectly weighted ball to Megan Rapinoe before the OL Reign forward chested down the ball and struck the half-volley past Jane Campbell. Rapinoe’s finish marked the first NWSL goal of 2022 for the USWNT star.

“The people here are really special and every time I come, that fills my heart,” said Little after Sunday’s match. Though Little capped off her second stint with OL Reign with a 2-1 loss to the Houston Dash, the Arsenal star left with confidence in the Seattle club.

“The team we’ve got here is unbelievable and the result today doesn’t show that,” Little said. “I have no doubt this team will be successful come the end of the season. I’ll be watching and supporting them from London.”

Little signed a deal with OL Reign in May, joining the NWSL team on a short-term loan ahead of Arsenal’s preseason. The midfielder previously played with OL Reign between 2014 and 2016, Scoring 32 goals across 63 regular-season appearances while helping the club to two NWSL Shield titles in 2014 and 2015.

Little played 495 minutes in six starts during her summer stint with OL Reign.

Arsenal captain Kim Little is returning to the NWSL, with the 31-year-old joining OL Reign on a short-term loan.

The Scottish striker’s stint with the Seattle-based club kicks off on June 1 and will conclude on Aug. 15 ahead of Arsenal’s preseason.

This isn’t Little’s first run with OL Reign. She played with the team, then known as Seattle Reign FC, between 2014 and 2016. Scoring 32 goals across 63 regular-season appearances, Little led the club to two NWSL Shield titles in 2014 and 2015 and earned NWSL MVP during the 2014 campaign.

“Bringing Kim back to the PNW is huge, Kim will go down in history as one of the best players to ever play in the NWSL and to have the chance to work with her again is exciting,” OL Reign coach Laura Harvey said in a statement. “I’d like to thank Arsenal for helping make this happen. This is a unique opportunity for us and one that we felt could be a huge impact on our squad in a crazy summer schedule. Kim’s ability and experience will be crucial for us to help continue to push our performances forward and help continue the growth of our young squad.”

OL Reign sits in third in the NWSL standings with a 2-3-1 record to start the season.

Vivianne Miedema officially has re-signed with Arsenal, the Women’s Super League club announced Friday. The news of the one-year deal first was reported by The Athletic last week.

Miedema previously had expressed uncertainty about her future with the club.

She was adamant about her desire to win the Champions League, and she said she wanted to spend her future “at a club that best suits my ambitions.” Arsenal was knocked out of this year’s Champions League tournament in the quarterfinals by VfL Wolfsburg.

The forward had been linked to both Paris Saint-Germain and reigning UEFA Women’s Champions League title holder Barcelona.

In an interview on Arsenal’s website, the 25-year-old said that the decision to return “feels right, right now.”

“I had to follow my heart and I’m happy to be part of the team next year,” she said. “With Jonas [Eidvall] coming in things have changed and we are going in the right direction. As I said before, I want to win titles and I would love to win them with Arsenal.

“I feel like for me, winning titles with Arsenal will mean a lot more to me than winning them with another club at the moment.”

Arsenal signed Miedema in 2017 from Bayern Munich. Since then, she’s been a dominant force for the Gunners and has broken multiple WSL records. The top scorer in league history, she is the only player to ever score against every team she has faced in the league.

She’s won the Golden Boot twice and finished second behind Sam Kerr the past two seasons.

“Viv is a stellar talent and a hugely important player for this team, so it’s fantastic news that she is staying with us,” said Eidvall, the team’s manager. “As a club, our ambition is to win titles and compete at the highest level – we know Viv’s own ambitions are the same, and together we will give everything to achieve that.”

Vivianne Miedema is closing in on a one-year deal that would extend the forward’s contract and keep her at Arsenal, according to The Athletic.

The 25-year-old had said following Arsenal’s WSL title loss that she was unsure about what her future would look like. Rumors had linked her to reigning UEFA Women’s Champions League title holder Barcelona.

“I really want to win titles,” Miedema told BBC.”This year I haven’t won anything.

“If I feel like the club is moving in that direction then maybe I will stay another year or two years. I’m speaking with the club and Jonas [Eidevall]. I will have a couple of weeks on holiday and will then make a decision.”

Eidevall had said that the team would “do everything we can to keep her.”

She previously had been vocal about wanting to win the Champions League. Arsenal was knocked out of this year’s Champions League tournament in the quarterfinals by VfL Wolfsburg.

Despite the earlier uncertainty, Miedema was filming content at the Gunners’ stadium Tuesday in preparation for a later announcement, according to The Athletic.

Since arriving at Arsenal in 2017, Miedema has been a huge piece of the Gunners’ squad, scoring her 100th goal for the club earlier this season and finishing the season with 23 goals and nine assists. The all-time leading scorer in the WSL, she has scored 72 goals in competition.

Arsenal downed Tottenham 3-0 on Wednesday to pull within one point of Chelsea in the Women’s Super League standings. The victory sets up a showdown between the clubs for the top of the table entering the season’s final weekend of competition.

Beth Mead opened up scoring for Arsenal, firing a low shot past the Tottenham goalkeeper to put her side up 1-0 in the third minute.

The second half was all Caitlin Foord, with the winger notching a brace to put the game out of reach.

Her first goal came after tapping in a Vivianne Miedema cross at the back post, doubling Arsenal’s lead in the 71st minute.

Ten minutes later, Foord buried her second goal of the game, firing a curler from the corner of the box.

Arsenal’s 3-0 shutout pushes the battle for the Women’s Super League title until the final day of competition.

Chelsea will face third-ranked Manchester United at 7 a.m. ET Sunday, while Arsenal will take on sixth-placed West Ham.

U.S. women’s national team star Tobin Health has been released from her contract with Arsenal, the Women’s Super League club announced Thursday.

A mutual agreement between Heath and the club, her release comes one week after the striker suffered a season-ending hamstring injury.

Arsenal has three matches remaining this season, and Health’s contract was due to expire at the end of the team’s campaign.

“Although I’m disappointed that my time at Arsenal has come to an early end, I have loved every minute of my time here,” Heath said in a statement. “I would like to thank everyone at the Club who has made me feel so welcome. Arsenal is a special Club and this is a special group of players.

The 33-year-old will return to the United States to start rehab with her medical team. Her NWSL rights are held by Racing Louisville, should she decide to play in the American league.

Heath joined Arsenal in September on a free transfer after competing with Manchester United during the 2020-2021 season. The American forward made 18 appearances with Arsenal, scoring three goals for the Gunners.

“It’s been a pleasure to work with Tobin this season,” said Arsenal coach Jonas Eidevall. “She has made an important contribution both on and off the pitch, with her mentality and character setting a great example to the entire group. We wish Tobin well for the future and look forward to seeing what comes next for her.”

Arsenal sits one point behind Chelsea in the WSL standings as the season nears its end.

Chelsea shut out Arsenal 2-0 in Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final, punching their ticket to Webley’s final against Manchester City.

With star Fran Kirby out due to an ongoing health issue, the rest of Chelsea’s roster stepped up, holding Arsenal to zero shots on target through the 90 minutes of play.

Chelsea’s offense got going in the second half, with Guro Reiten firing a long-range effort from the edge of the box, past the Arsenal goalkeeper to go up 1-0 in the 50th minute.

Ji So-yun doubled Chelsea’s lead in the 61st minute, pulling back a top-shelf rocket to put the game at 2-0.

“It was a whole team performance that we were proud of,” said Chelsea manager Emma Hayes. “Once we got the second goal the game felt easier. We were more confident and comfortable.”

Now out of FA Cup contention, Arsenal will shift its attention to the Women’s Super League, where the Gunners sit just one point below Chelsea in the standings.

Chelsea will face Manchester City in the FA Cup final on May 15 at Wembley Stadium.

The Women’s FA Cup semifinals begin Saturday with a contest between West Ham and Manchester City, with a rematch of the 2021 final between Chelsea and Arsenal awaiting fans on Sunday.

Saturday’s matchup will begin at 7:15 a.m. ET on ESPN+. The last meeting between the two teams on April 2 resulted in a 2-0 win for Manchester City. West Ham are headed into the game having lost back-to-back Women’s Super League games, while City is on an eight-game winning streak and looking for a fourth FA Cup.

To reach Sunday’s rematch, Arsenal won its FA Cup quarterfinal 4-0 against Coventry United, while Chelsea defeated Birmingham City 5-0 in its quarterfinal.

The two sides last met in February, and that match ended in a 0-0 draw. In the 2021 FA Cup final in December, though, Chelsea defeated Arsenal 3-0, helped by two second-half goals from Sam Kerr.

Arsenal has won the most FA Cup titles overall with 14, but its most recent FA Cup title came in 2016.

The two teams will face off Sunday at 7:30 a.m. ET on ESPN+.

The first leg of the Women’s Champion League quarterfinals is complete. The eight remaining teams now are setting their sights on the second leg, which kicks off next week.

In Wednesday’s early match, Juventus rallied to beat Olympique Lyonnais 2-1 after Lyon’s Ellie Carpenter was issued a red card in the 62nd minute.

Lyon went up 1-0 off a Catarina Macario strike in the eighth minute, but Cristiana Girelli notched the equalizer in the 71st minute for Juventus. Agnese Bonfantini broke the tie in the 83rd minute.

“Lyon are the best team in the world, both individually and collectively,” said Juventus coach Joe Montemurro. “The sending off gave us an advantage but I saw signs before that we were starting to exploit the space better.”

In the late match, Arsenal and Wolfsburg finished in a 1-1 draw. Tabea Wassmuth put one on the board for Wolfsburg in the 19th minute before a late equalizer from Lotte Wubben-Moy in the 89th minute led to the draw.

“It was a very good finish, a very special moment for [Wubben-Moy] to come to this stadium and score a very important goal like this,” said Arsenal manager Jonas Eidvall. “You work with a player every day and she gets to live a moment like this – it’s a special moment. In football, sometimes there are bad times, and sometimes there are good times like that.”

On Twitter, Wubben-Moy called it a “dream.”

Tuesday’s game between Barcelona and Real Madrid resulted in a 3-1 win for Barcelona. Alexia Putellas scored twice to help lift the defending champions over Madrid.

The second leg of the quarterfinals will kick off next Wednesday, starting with Barcelona and Real Madrid. Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich will finish off the day before the final two matches of the quarterfinals are played on Thursday.

Vivianne Miedema’s Women’s Super League dominance continued Sunday as the Arsenal striker became the first player in the league to reach 100 goal contributions.

The 25-year-old achieved the mark with a goal in the 31st minute of Arsenal’s 4-2 win over Birmingham City.

Miedema is the WSL’s all-time leading scorer with 70 goals and has the third-most assists with 30.

With the win, Arsenal extended its league atop the league table with 37 points, eight points clear of rivals Chelsea.
