Becky Sauerbrunn did not mince words when addressing FIFA’s goal of attracting more youth with a biennial World Cup.

“I read that one argument in favor is that FIFA wants to bring more youth to the game,” she said during media availability ahead of the USWNT’s game against South Korea Thursday. “If FIFA wants to bring more youth to the game, they should do something to eradicate racism and misogyny, homophobia and transphobia.

“This sport is supposed to be for everyone. If it wants to attract more youth, you have to make it open for everyone.”

Alex Morgan was also asked about the biennial World Cup, stating that she sees both sides to the argument, but wants to ensure that the federations make an improved financial commitment to women’s soccer if it’s going to up the number of World Cups.

FIFA reportedly plans to discuss the possibility of a biennial World Cup at a December meeting.
