Gaetane Thiney is leaving Gotham FC to return to Paris FC after being on loan for the NWSL season.

In a post on Instagram, Thiney thanked Gotham FC for welcoming her.

“You brought me much more than I could have imagined,” she wrote. “I admire your ability to take responsibility, to engage, to be individuals, to be determined, and to reach the next level without ever complaining.”

She also thanked her teammates for their patience in putting up with her “second degree” and “strong French accent.”

“It wasn’t always easy, was it Carli Lloyd?” she wrote.

Thiney appeared in nine games for Gotham FC, scoring two goals after she joined the team in June.

Gaëtane Thiney has signed with Gotham FC for the 2021 season. On loan from Paris FC, Thiney will join the NWSL team following the conclusion of her French Division 1 Féminine season.

Thiney is a veteran striker for club and country, first appearing for the French national team in 2007 and leading Paris FC since 2008.

“She combines calmness in possession with an ability to unlock defenses and a great work rate. I am very happy for her to be making her NWSL debut with Gotham FC,” said Gotham FC head coach Freya Coombe of Thiney.
