After finishing regulation tied at 26 under with Xiyu Lin, Koerstz Madsen pulled ahead, sinking a 10-foot putt for the win. Koerstz Madsen and Lin both set a new tournament record, besting Jessia Korda’s -25, set in 2018.
“She really fought. She finished up birdie-birdie, so she played amazing, too,” Koerstz Madsen said of Lin after the playoff. “Yes, I’m not going to lie, I was a little nervous there.”
Koerstz Madsen entered the final round with a one-stroke lead before Lin cut the advantage with a birdie on No. 17, taking advantage of Koerstz Madsen’s bogey on No. 16.
Lin pushed Korestz Madsen during the playoff as well, making a chip from the front of the green to birdie the first hole, forcing her competitor to come up big on the second hole for the victory.
“It’s amazing. It’s a dream come true,” said Korestz Madsen. “I’m really excited to be standing with the trophy right now.”
