Racing Louisville’s Jaelin Howell will replace Olympique Lyonnais midfielder Lindsey Horan on the United States women’s national team’s roster for the 2022 SheBelieves Cup, a three-game round-robin tournament beginning next week.

The USWNT announced on Friday that Horan has been ruled out of the tournament due to knee irritation. The star midfielder will still report to training camp and receive medical evaluation.

Howell, 22, has just two caps with the national team, having made her international debut in 2020 against the Netherlands.

The two-time MAC Hermann Trophy winner was the second overall pick of Racing Louisville FC in the 2022 NWSL Draft in December after leading Florida State to the 2021 NCAA championship.

The USWNT will open the SheBelieves Cup next Thursday against the Czech Republic at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calif.
