Swimmer Madeline Groves withdrew from Australia’s Olympic Trials on Friday, citing exploitation and misogyny.
Groves announced her decision to forgo the trials on social media.
“You can no longer exploit young women and girls, body shame or medically gaslight them and then expect them to represent you so you can earn your annual bonus,” said Groves.
Let this be a lesson to all misogynistic perverts in sport and their boot lickers - You can no longer exploit young women and girls, body shame or medically gaslight them and then expect them to represent you so you can earn your annual bonus. Time’s UP https://t.co/XMQCRPjNzK

Groves won two silver medals representing Australia in the 2016 Olympics. The 26-year-old swimmer said she expects to be racing in other competitions later in the year.
Swimming Australia released a statement saying, “…unfortunately at this point we have not been able to have a direct conversation with Maddie to understand exactly what her concerns are, who the people involved are, so that we can investigate it and deal with it.”
