No. 3 Ohio State women’s basketball has proved itself a formidable foe through the early stretch of the season, but the Buckeyes will need to navigate the rest of their schedule without point guard Madison Greene.

The update on Greene’s season-ending knee injury, provided Wednesday by Ohio State coach Kevin McGuff, put a damper on the day, which also featured a dominant 81-48 win against Northwestern.

With the victory, the Buckeyes moved to 14-0. If they want to maintain their perfect record, though, they’ll need to use their deep bench to make up for the absences of Greene and fellow point guard Jacy Sheldon.

Sheldon has been out with a leg injury since Nov. 30 and remains week-to-week. Ohio State will not rush its senior star back to the court, McGuff said Wednesday.

In the absence of Sheldon, point guard duties fell to Greene, but the redshirt junior went down with a noncontact knee injury in the fourth quarter of a Dec. 20 win over USF.

Greene had knee surgery in the offseason in 2021, and she missed all of the 2021-22 season as a result. In 12 games this season, she averaged 10.9 points, 5.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game for the Buckeyes.

Next up, Ohio State hosts a rivalry game against No. 14 Michigan at 1 p.m. ET Saturday.
