The Chicago Red Stars defeated Kansas City 3-0 at home on Saturday night, securing three points in the NWSL standings.

The Red Stars started on the front foot with Sarah Woldmoe nodding in a well-placed corner kick from Mallory Pugh, putting the game at 1-0 in the 35th minute.

Woldmoe struck again in the 62nd minute, punching in a loose ball off a set piece from Pugh to double Chicago’s lead.

The Red Stars sealed the game in the 81st minute with Katie Johnson heading in a lofted cross from Kealia Watt to make it 3-0.

Adrianna Franch made history despite the loss, becoming only the fifth player in league history to record 300 career saves. Franch spent most of her career with the Portland Thorns, where she played from 2016 until she was traded earlier this month to Kansas City.

Next up: The Red Stars will take on Gotham FC on Saturday. Kansas City will host the North Carolina Courage on September 5th.
