The United States women’s national team kicked off the Summer Series with a 1-0 win over Portugal on Thursday night.Β

Despite outshooting Portugal 26-4, the U.S. struggled to find the back of the net for most of the game.

The team broke through in the 76th minute off a header from Sam Mewis, who found herself with space in front of the Portugal net and got on the end of a Christen Press corner kick.

Mewis has now scored in 22 international games for the USWNT. With the assist, Press became just the 14th USWNT player in history to record 100 combined goals and assists.Β

The USWNT are now undefeated in 40 straight matches, the third-longest streak in team history.Β

Next up, the United States will play Jamaica on Sunday at 10 p.m. ET on FS1. The Summer Series serves as the final audition for players before coach Vlatko Andonovski has to choose the 18-player roster that will represent the U.S. at the Tokyo Olympics.
