Texas Tech took down No. 9 Texas 74-61 on Wednesday in Austin, handing the Longhorns their second loss of the season and recording the latest upset in women’s college basketball.

Plagued by foul trouble, the Longhorns committed 34 fouls to Tech’s 24. Senior captain Joanne Allen-Taylor, who had just seven points all game, fouled out in the third quarter. DeYona Gaston, who contributed eight points and five rebounds, fouled out in the fourth.

Vivian Gray led Texas Tech with a game-high 23 points and added seven rebounds. Arkansas-Little Rock transfer Bre’Amber Scott had 21 points for the Red Raiders, while Taylah Thomas contributed 12 points and 13 rebounds. Texas Tech held Texas to 29.2 percent shooting for the game and forced 15 turnovers.

Aliyah Matharu led the way for the Longhorns with 12 points and five rebounds. The Red Raiders’ first win over the Longhorns at home since 2013 also snapped Texas’ seven-game winning streak.

Texas, who entered the top 10 for the first time this week, dropped their first Big 12 game of the year.
