One week after losing her world No. 1 ranking, Jin Young Ko rebounded in a big way.
The South Korean star closed with seven straight pars to finish 2-under 69 on Sunday and earn her the 1-shot victory at the Volunteers of America Classic. In total, she finished 16-under 268 to earn her eight career LPGA victory.
Ko spent nearly two years atop the women’s world rankings before being supplanted by Nelly Korda last week, who won the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. It’s been a rough start to the year for Ko, who has failed to finish in the top 10 in four of her previous five starts on the LPGA Tour.
The win marks her first of the year.
