Tina Charles put on a show Friday night.

The veteran center dropped 34 points, helping the Mystics secure a 101-72 victory over the Liberty. Ariel Atkins added 25 points to propel Washington to its first win of the season.

Charles also recorded nine rebounds and connected on a career-high four 3-pointers against her former team. Friday’s game was Charles’ first regular-season matchup against the Liberty after New York traded her to the Mystics in a three-team deal last April.

With her stellar performance against the Liberty, Charles moved into fifth place for all-time field goals made at 2,447.

Both the Mystics and the Liberty play again Sunday. Washington will hope to build on its first win of the season against the Indiana Fever. The Mystics will get a boost from the return of Myisha Hines-Allen, who is scheduled to rejoin the team after wrapping up her overseas season in France. Washington waived Jillian Alleyne to make room for Hines-Allen.

New York will look to regain its composure on the road against the Chicago Sky.
