Trinity Rodman is opening up about her relationship with her father, former NBA star Dennis Rodman, after he attended the Washington Spirit’s playoff game on Sunday. Rodman helped set up Ashley Hatch’s goal in extra time that lifted the Spirit to a 1-0 win over the North Carolina Courage and a trip to the NWSL semifinals.
“This last game was an extremely emotional one,” she wrote on Instagram. “Yes Dennis Rodman showed up to an NWSL game, but also my dad, after YEARS surprised me at a big game in my career.”
Rodman added that having her dad there left her “shocked, overwhelmed, happy, sad, everything.”
“My dad doesn’t play a big role in my life at all and most people don’t know that, we don’t see eye to eye on many things,” she continued, revealing that at times they go months, and sometimes years, without communicating.
Dennis Rodman played 14 seasons in the NBA, winning five championships with the Detroit Pistons and Chicago Bulls. The two-time Defensive Player of the Year was inducted into the Naismith Hall of Fame in 2011. Trinity Rodman told Just Women’s Sports in June that she has a much closer relationship with her mom, Michelle, whom she calls many times a day.
Rodman has had a breakout first season in the NWSL since being drafted first overall in January. She is the frontrunner for the NWSL’s Rookie of the Year after recording 12 points (six goals, six assists) in 2021.
“We don’t have the best relationship, but at the end of the day he’s human I’m human…he’s my dad, and I’m his little girl that will never change,” Rodman wrote.
