A four-episode docuseries titled “Full Court Press” will premiere in May, following three of college basketball’s biggest stars: Iowa’s Caitlin Clark, South Carolina’s Kamilla Cardoso and UCLA’s Kiki Rice.
It is produced by Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions, which also produced the Netflix series “Quarterback” and has followed players throughout the season at practices, their biggest games and in time away from the court.
“All of [the players] ask me a very good question,” Manning told the Washington Post. “They say, ‘Peyton, would you have done this if you were my age?’ It’s very fair, and my answer has been, ‘No,’ because there was probably nobody that I trusted that would have my back and would do this with the player being the number one priority. Being a former player, I know how hard it is to be a pro QB, how hard it is to be a D-1 athlete.”
All three have had editorial input in the series, but don’t have a say in the final cut. Nothing that was filmed by Omaha was in direct opposition of the players. Instead, the series is a collaboration with the players on their storylines.
For Clark, it’s following her record-breaking season while attempting to tick off that last box before going to the WNBA: winning a national title. Cardoso’s is about filling the shoes that former national player of the year Aliyah Boston left.
Rice, meanwhile, is the first college athlete to sign a deal with Jordan brand.
Adding to the intrigue is a chance that Clark and Rice cross paths in the NCAA tournament, with the two claiming the top two seeds in the Albany region.
“This is guided by the players, and we want this to be a positive piece, to show them in their best light,” Manning said. “So that’s what I told Caitlin. ‘You’ll find we’re not a distraction, and you’ll have ideas for what we could witness.’ The whole goal is to have this be a memento for them.”
The first two episodes will air on ABC on Saturday, May 11 at 1 p.m. ET on ABC. The third and fourth episodes will then air on Sunday, May 12 at 12:30 p.m. ET on ABC. All episodes will also be available to stream on ESPN+.
