One layup was all Shakira Austin needed to score a piece of WNBA history in the Washington Mystics' 110-80 win over the Chicago Sky on Thursday.
Her first bucket at Wintrust Arena cleared Sonia Citron's 2025 single-season scoring mark for the franchise record. Austin finished with 20 points on the night in the team's first game back from the FIBA World Cup break.
But she didn't earn the win alone.

Kiki Iriafen backed Austin with 18 points and 11 rebounds for her 21st double-double of the season. She also set a franchise single-season record with 115 offensive rebounds, as all five Mystics starters finished in double figures.
Georgia Amoore and Michaela Onyenwere each added 12, while Cotie McMahon contributed 11 in Citron's place. The young guard missed the return to regular-season play for personal reasons.
Still, even without her, Washington controlled the paint, turning 17 Sky turnovers into 22 points. At one point, its lead stretched to 32 points before Chicago was able to steady itself.
Courtney Vandersloot helped, pacing the Sky with 14 points. Rookie Sydney Taylor added 12, passing legend Cynthia Cooper for the eighth spot on the WNBA's all-time rookie 3-pointers list. But their efforts couldn't overcome the Mystics' offensive attack, and Chicago ended up dropping its fourth straight game.
The result moves Washington to 25-16 — tied with Dallas at sixth in the league standings — while last-place Chicago falls to 15-26.
