Chelsea and Arsenal played to a scoreless draw in a battle for the top of the Women’s Super League table on Friday.
The matchup featured spoiled chances on both sides, with both Arsenal and Chelsea being unable to finish off opportunities in the final third.
The game’s most dramatic moment, however, came in stoppage time, when Niamh Charles’ cross struck the arm of Leah Williamson. The Arsenal defender’s arms were outstretched and came down to block Chelsea’s late cross into the box.
After the play, Chelsea appealed for a spot-kick, as the block was clearly more than incidental contact, but the game official wouldn’t oblige, refusing to call a penalty.

The 0-0 scoreline means Arsenal and Chelsea split points, putting the Gunners two points clear of the Blues in the WSL title fight.
“The best official in the league has missed the biggest decision tonight,” Chelsea coach Emma Hayes said after the match. “Everybody knows it was a penalty and you don’t need me to say anything. It happens and they got away with that one.”
