Expansion clubs Angel City FC and San Diego Wave FC have wasted no time introducing themselves to the league, climbing to the top of the NWSL standings with three matches played.
The California clubs improved their records Sunday night, with Angel City notching a 1-0 win over the reigning NWSL champion Washington Spirit and San Diego recording a 2-1 victory over the Chicago Red Stars.
San Diego is anchored by veteran forward Alex Morgan, who currently leads the league with five goals. Morgan added to her tally Sunday, burying her third penalty kick of the regular season to help her side to a commanding win.
