The U.S. women’s national team is going to Paris, securing a 2024 Olympic berth with a 1-0 victory over Canada in the Concacaf W Championship final on Monday night.
After a series of missed chances, a penalty kick drawn by Rose Lavelle in the 78th minute provided the USWNT with the breakthrough goal. Alex Morgan lined up over the ball, then beat Canada keeper and her San Diego Wave teammate Kailen Sheridan from the spot to put her side ahead.

The USWNT started the match on the front foot, putting Canada under heavy pressure early.
The first half featured a series of near misses, with Mallory Pugh, Morgan and Sophia Smith all nearly notching go-ahead goals in the opening 45 minutes.
The closest call came just before the break, with Sheridan denying Smith at the goal line for a thrilling end to the first frame.

While the USWNT had the better chances of the opening half, Canada found success on the flank through Nichelle Prince. The Houston Dash striker made the most of her matchup against Sophia Huerta, getting two shots on frame that U.S. goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher comfortably saved.
Canada’s attack was quieter in the second half, and the USWNT was able to hold off its North American rivals down the stretch despite a tense ending to regulation.
The victory serves as redemption for the United States after the team fell 1-0 to Canada in the Olympic semifinals last August. The USWNT’s qualifying trophy is its ninth Concacaf championship title.
