The No.9 seed defeated Marketa Vondrousova 7-5, 2-6, 6-3 to become the first Swiss woman to win an Olympic gold medal in tennis.

Vondrousova of the Czech Republic will take home silver after Saturday’s defeat. Elina Svitolnia rounds out the podium, earning Ukraine a bronze medal with her win over Elena Rybakina 1-6, 7-6(5), 6-4.
Bencic will have another opportunity at gold when she and her partner, Viktorija Golubic, meet Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova in Sunday’s doubles final.
It's Sabalenka's first title.
