It’s the year of first-timers at the US Open.

On Sunday, Maria Sakkari reached her first US Open quarterfinal in a marathon, 3-set match versus Bianca Andreescu that clocked in at three and a half hours, ending at 2:13 a.m. It’s the latest-finishing women’s match in tournament history.

Sakkari eliminated the 2019 US Open champion after losing the first set, 6-7(2), before winning the second set in a tiebreak, 7-6(2) to set up a winner-take-all third set. Sakkari would take the final set 6-3.

The loss marks Andreescu’s first in the main draw at Flushing Meadows. She beat Serena Williams in 2019 to win the title in her debut before missing last year’s US Open due to a knee injury.

Sakkari is set to take on fourth-seeded Karolina Piloskova in the quarterfinal. Barbora Krejcikova is the lone Grand Slam winner left in the draw.
