Alex Morgan is the NWSL’s 2022 Golden Boot winner, having scored the most goals in the league this season.
The striker scored 15 goals through 17 appearances for expansion club San Diego Wave FC, her most in a single season in the NWSL. Her previous high had been nine goals in 13 appearances for the Orlando Pride in 2017.
A third of her goals were scored from the penalty spot. The five goals from the spot tied her for the league lead in penalty-kick goals and putting her just one short of the league record of six, which was set in 2014.
Finishing in second place was Portland’s Sophia Smith, who set a Thorns franchise record for goals with 14 on the season. North Carolina’s Debinha finished third with 12 goals, while her Courage teammate Diana Ordóñez and Chicago’s Mallory Pugh finished tied for fourth with 11 goals.
Last season’s winner, Washington Spirit forward Ashley Hatch, finished tied for sixth with Houston Dash forward Ebony Salmon at nine goals.
With the five highest goal scorers all reaching double digits, this NWSL campaign saw most double-digit goal scorers in a single season. The goal-scoring frenzy comes one season after Hatch made history with the fewest goals needed to win the Golden Boot in NWSL history (10).
